What Is The Difference Between A King "Salt-free" Filtration & Conditioning System vs. a King "Hybrid" Filtration & Softening System?
The term “water softener” describes a system that uses a process of ionic exchange to remove hard water minerals (calcium, magnesium) out of the water and replace them with sodium ions. The minerals are then flushed to drain once they have collected in your system, meaning your water supply is now completely free of these healthy minerals. Soft Water is not safe to drink and this is why it is necessary to use a reverse osmosis system at your kitchen sink to provide safe drinking water. This method of water treatment is highly maintenance intensive, and very costly over time often costing the user thousands of dollars in maintenance.
King Water Filtration systems are not water softeners, bit rather comprehensive water filters that also condition the water to prevent hard water scale without the need for salt. Our systems do not remove the healthy minerals from the water. Rather, it changes the chemical structure of the minerals to stop them from forming scale inside your pipes and on your fixtures. King Water Filtration and Conditioning systems also provide clean and safe drinking water throughout your entire home and there is no more need for using salt, replacing filters or having to worry about any kind of maintenance.

Isn’t My City Municipal Water Safe To Drink?
Most municipal water systems use chlorine and/or chloramines to kill bacteria and other microorganisms. While the chemicals do an excellent job at killing bacteria and organic matter, It is important to remember we are made up of organic matter, hence making chlorine unhealthful. Chlorine and chloramines also create dry skin and hair, unpleasant taste and odors that makes water undesirable to drink, cook or bath in. King Water Filtration Systems filter out the many of the harmful chemicals and contaminants, unpleasant tastes, and smells to provide clean alkaline drinking water throughout your entire home.
Do King Water Whole Home "Salt-free" Filtration Systems Remove Tds From Water?
The Answer is No, and Here is Why:
We get this question often and I hope I can help explain your TDS meter’s Parts Per Million or “ppm” readings.
Our multi stage municipal water filters utilize redox and adsorptive technologies to remove potentially detrimentally affecting contaminants from your drinking water
This allows us to have the some of the Highest Contaminant Reduction levels in the industry!
Many customers wondering how to reduce TDS in water, are curious as to why our filters don’t reduce the Total Dissolved Solids, or “TDS” found in tap water. Here’s why:
If you’re wondering how to lower TDS in water, it is important to remember TDS is not an accurate indication of water quality.
In understanding how to remove Total Dissolved Solids from water, it is important to remember TDS is not linked with adverse health effects. In fact, the main component of TDS is: minerals (such as calcium, potassium, iron etc.). Higher TDS readings often indicate higher levels of the trace minerals in the water which is actually desirable.
The best part about our product is that it is able to filter out the chemicals, disinfectants and heavy metals in ONE STEP but is also able to leave the healthy mineral content of the water in tact.
Our filters are not designed for TDS removal of minerals such as other Reverse Osmosis or Distillation do.
The recent popularity of inexpensive and portable TDS meters has now made testing one’s tap water fairly common practice. However, these devices really don’t tell the whole story, and most people are led to believe that high levels of TDS is bad when in fact, bottled mineral water will have readings in excess of 250ppm!
So if you are testing your water with a TDS meter, know that your readings will vary, and that a TDS reading higher than the tap water is NOT an indication of a faulty filter.
Summary:
Unless your tap water has a TDS value that is vastly outside of the recommended range you have no need to worry. High TDS in tap water basically means that there is mineral water coming out of your tap. You should be happy.
